Federal Practice Series CLE & Swearing In Ceremony

This is the perfect program for any new admittees to the practice of law or any attorney who wants to be admitted to practice to the federal court system in Louisiana.

Attorneys are also welcome to attend just for the CLE hours.

This year the NOFBA is also happy to offer a hotel room block for attorneys from outside of the New Orleans area who may want to attend the Malcolm Monroe Federal Practice Seminar. It is at the Hotel Intercontinental. Details on how to make a reservation directly with the hotel are in the registration packet.

For attendees wishing to be sworn in to one or all of the federal courts in Louisiana, there is a registration packet that must be completed. It can be found on our website by clicking the link below. There is also a download for additional forms that those applying will need to complete. Registration is required for this program and all paperwork to be sworn in is due to the FBA office no later than Friday, November 14, 2025 at 3:00 pm.

To Attend:

In order to be admitted to the different Louisiana federal courts, attendees must complete a registration packet.  The deadline to submit your packet is  Wednesday, November 13, 2024. The registration packet and additional forms needed can be downloaded from our website.

CLE Credits


This program will fulfill a portion of the required continuing legal education credits:

  • 1 Ethics, 1 Law Office Management and 

  • 1 General Hour

In this interactive presentation, attendees will learn about various Louisiana Rules of Professional Conduct and ethical scenarios with an opportunity for the audience to participate and ask questions.

Former law clerks from every federal district court in Louisiana and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit will provide tips and advice from behind the walls of chambers. Panelists will cover a myriad of topics, including a comparison of local rules across the federal districts, pet peeves on writing or arguments, and communication and candor with the Court.

This panel will discuss the essentials of law practice, including how to keep a calendar, how to organize your files, billing best practices, and how to communicate with clients. Be sure to bring all of the questions you have been dying to ask about the fundamentals of legal practice for what we hope will be an interactive and informative session.

Objectivity is an illusion. Without our conscious knowledge, stereotypes and assumptions are embedded into all our brains. Implicit biases are held by everyone, including those negatively impacted by them. With a focus on new professionals, Judge van Meerveld will help you learn how to recognize and address implicit bias and highlight how law firms and lawyers can work to create and foster a legal community where opportunities for growth, development, and advancement are open to all.
