Join the Younger Lawyers Division as they host Morning at the Federal Courthouse on Tuesday, June 17, 2025. Morning at the Federal Courthouse gives young lawyers, law students, and summer associates an opportunity to observe and learn about federal practice. Registration starts at 8 a.m., and the program will begin at 8:30 a.m. in U.S. District Court. During this program, participants will choose their schedule from court proceedings and panel discussions presented by federal practitioners and judges. A full agenda will be given at check-in.

9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Observe civil motion and/or criminal docket of participating Judges. This schedule will be distributed at registration. If you would like the agenda in advance, please contact the FBA Office.
9:00-10:00 a.m. How to Succeed at an Organization of Any Kind. (1 hour) Join Ellie George, attorney at Liskow & Lewis, Eric Foley, senior counsel at the MacArthur Justice Center, Jennifer Barriere, in-house counsel at Delta Energy, and Paul Hubbell, Assistant United States Attorney, for an informal discussion about what young lawyers can expect as they enter their first year of practice or transfer to a new organization. They will also discuss working within traditional and non-traditional reporting structures, maintaining client relationships, and good workload management practices.

10:10-11:10 a.m. Federal Practice Tips for Young Lawyers (1 hour) Magistrate Judge Eva Dossier will discuss the nuts and bolts of practicing in federal court. She will highlight best practices and what young lawyers should expect when litigating federal cases. One of the biggest tips for young lawyers practicing in federal court is to know the local rules. She will also discuss things she wish she knew before taking the bench and things she appreciates in her courtroom.

11:20a.m.-12:20 p.m. DEI in Flux (1 hour). DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) initiatives are under scrutiny, making it more important than ever for organizations to stay informed and up to date on the current state of the law. Join Sheila Abron, partner at Fisher Phillips, Sharonda Williams, special counsel at Fishman Haygood, Heather Lonian, member at Stone Pigman, and Blaine LeCesne, professor of law at Loyola University New Orleans College of Law, as they address the evolving landscape of DEI initiatives both before and after the recent executive orders. This panel discussion will also address the current state of law and the practical effects of the executive orders in the education, employment and law firm environments.
