12:55pm — Welcome and Opening Remarks: Honorable Jane Triche Milazzo

1:00-2:00pm — Bankruptcy 101 with the Honorable Meredith Grabill

• Judge Grabill will give a comprehensive overview of the USDC EDLA Bankruptcy Court, including best practices and procedures. This session is designed to demystify the Bankruptcy Court, give a practical understanding of how it operates, and provide valuable insight and tips for practitioners who need to bring a case before the Court. Judge Grabill will also cover important local rules and procedural considerations practitioners need to know.

2:00-3:00pm — Filings 101: A Hands-On Session with EDLA Clerk of Court Carol Michel and Lafourche Parish Clerk of Court Annette Fontana

• Our Clerks will compare and contrast filing in federal versus state court. They will share best practices along with dos and don’ts while highlighting key procedural similarities and differences. Attendees will gain valuable insight into how each court system operates from the clerk’s perspective, and receive a wealth of information to make the filing process easier.

3:00-4:00pm —Welcome to Federal Court: A Panel Discussion of Best Practices and Procedures

• This session brings together a distinguished panel of three federal judges to provide an inside look at navigating the federal judicial system. Designed for civil and criminal litigators alike, this session pulls back the curtain on rules, evolving district policies, and effective advocacy. Attendees will gain practical strategies to streamline their federal practice and avoid common procedural pitfalls

• This discussion will highlight the contrast between the two jurisdictions while focusing on the core tenets of the Louisiana lawyer's oath and Rules of Professional Conduct, highlighting the requirements of honesty, civility, and fairness. Our panelists will share their observations from the bench.
