Summer Seminar CLE

Join the New Orleans Chapter of the Federal Bar Association on Friday, July 25, 2025 for a day of continuing legal education on recent developments in federal criminal law. Speakers will explore recent developments in the law with an eye on defending clients in federal criminal cases. This 7 hour CLE including 1 hour of Professionalism is free for Government Attorneys, Federal Public Defenders, CJA Panel Attorneys, and FBA members. Nonmembers are welcome for a small fee.

Please allow sufficient time for parking. Lunch and refreshments provided.

* Alan Dorhoffer with the United States Sentencing Commission will present two sessions. The first session will discuss recent Supreme Court and Fifth Circuit cases related to federal sentencing. The second session will focus on Guideline Amendments and related topics.* Mario Trujilo, with the Electronic Frontier Foundation, will speak on Geofence Warrants, including the developing legal landscape and circuit split. Jan Perdue will speak on issues related to the Bureau of Prisons placement and conditions of confinement, including considerations in making designation requests and information that attorneys should relay to judges about medical access and mental health treatment.* Samantha Kuhn and Steven Spires, both with the FPD Office in the EDLA, will speak on firearms prosecutions, the changing legal landscape, and preserving issues.* Christian Bolden, a Professor of Criminology and Justice at Loyola University in New Orleans, plans to speak on the desistance from gang activity in New Orleans.* Judge Darrel Papillion and Magistrate Judge Eva Dossier will present a session on dos and don'ts for effective written and oral advocacy.
