The Honorable Carl J. Barbier Announces Intention to Take Senior Status

On December 5, 2022, the Honorable Carl J. Barbier, U.S. District Judge for the Eastern District of Louisiana, informed President Joseph R. Biden that he intends to take senior status January 1, 2023. He is not stepping down from the bench and he intends to maintain a full caseload as a Senior Status Judge.  By taking senior status, even by maintaining a full caseload, a judge creates a vacancy on the court, to be filled by the nomination and confirmation process for Article III judges.  For more than 24 years, Judge Barbier has served as an active district judge for the Eastern District of Louisiana. We want to honor him and thank him for over 24 years of service. We look forward to having him continue serving as a Senior Judge and as an active member of our Chapter.  Judge Barbier’s letter to President Biden can be read at this link.
